Chun-Li is famous for strong, quick kick, continued to attack his opponent with his legs as an attack. He used a defensive style of Tai Chi, even though his style has also been referred to the kung-fu. His kick was based off of kicking without a shadow known as seen in the hit movie, "Iron Monkey"

Chun-Li is the central character in Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie. Interpol agent, he investigated the organization of M. Bison 'from Shadowlaw, who allegedly killed several diplomats. He requests to work with Guile to investigate the Bison's organization. Guile initially reluctant to work with, he is more eager to pursue Bison himself. At the end of the film, however, they have become inseparable. He is voiced by Miki Fujitani in the Japanese release. In the English adaptation by Manga Entertainment, he is voiced by Lia Sargent.

In a famous example of fan service, a scene of explicit show Chun-Li shower in his apartment as the killer Shadaloo, Vega, came to kill him. Shower scene has been censored for various levels of rank in the English version Vega attacks. But she fights back. After the defeat Bison in the hands of Ryu and Ken, Chun-Li pulled a joke on Guile with a look as if he had died when she left, lying still with a sheet over the body and face. As Guile grieves his bedside, she surprises him with the title of a newspaper announcing the fall of Bison's operations.
