Cannonball, whose real name is Samuel "Sam" Zachary Guthrie, is a cartoon character created by Chris Claremont (lyrics) and Bob McLeod (drawings), published by Marvel Comics. Appearing for the first time in the pages of Marvel Graphic Novel # 4: The New Mutants (1982), Cannonball is a superhero, a member of the New Mutants. Born in Cumberland, Kentucky, Sam Guthrie tried to help his family by working in the mines after his father's death in one of these. His mutation is unconsciously activated when trapped in a mine with a friend of his father tried to free them both. This incident made sure that Donald Pierce, a member of the Hellfire Club, the notice and as a mercenary hired to attack the New Mutants. This energy is also known as a resistant force field that protects the body from external damage.
